Turnstile, a project by artist David Wills — — Copyright 2020

Grounded in the quotidian, I use photography, installation, drawing and collecting to map experience. My photographic focus is regularly drawn to the ground where various typologies lay evident: discarded plastics bags, wan Band-Aids adhered to the ground or abandoned mattresses to mention but a few. Resulting datasets form the basis of Wunderwalls and Shootin’ Gallery where futility, waste and human experience come together to present a vision of environmental destruction albeit with a brush of beauty.

My current base is Amsterdam. I have held teaching positions within the photography departments of the University of Newcastle, the Australian National University, National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts. I have given guest lectures at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam, Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong as well as presenting a paper at UCLA. My editorial contributions include Iamsterdam Magazine, Unseen Amsterdam, iamsterdam.com, Art Guide Australia, Artist Profile, Artlook, Muse, Photofile, RealTime, The Australian and Time Out.
