Proximity

Ubiquitous surveillance technology has become accepted. We don't question its use, we don't care who watches our every step and little attention is paid to where our image may end up. Mirrors, television screens and surveillance cameras are everyday objects that relay images. The mirror tells us if we look presentable or not, the television informs and entertains, while surveillance cameras attempt to keep our urban environments safe. A surveillance camera mounted above a framed mirror relays footage of the viewer to a television screen in another room. The viewer's intimate portrait, as reflected in the mirror has been broadcast for someone else to see. The image reflected is the image we use to groom ourselves for the world. It is usually the image that we alone see.
