David Wills

With a predominantly photographic practice, David Wills is an artist working across media: photography, web, video and installation. His large-scale photo installations comprise thousands of images coupled with closing performances where the audience commences the de-installation process. In 2009, Wills completed his PhD at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra where he also completed his Honours (First Class) and taught in the Photomedia department from 2005. Wills currently lectures in the Photomedia departments of the National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University, and contributes to This is Ikon's blog.

Wills grew up under Sydney’s flight path in suburban Banksia, where his lifelong obsession with music, images, magazines and Lego paved the way for a career in media, including Cosmopolitan, SHE, Muse and Time Out. He has lived in Sydney, London, Amsterdam and Antwerp, undertaken a residency in Paris, attended international conferences, and continues to develop new work. He is interested in the search for similarity/difference in a world of similarity/difference.
